Happy 4th men!

Anybody think the Iraqi's are blogging about high school sports? Don't take your freedom for granted. Thank you Military! BIGDVI- I did not see your name listed as one of the contestants in the Nathan's hot dog eating contest. What gives? Sore Jaw?

The Latest scoop.....

Hi posters, Tom W. again...some good points being made in the last couple of days...here we go - Fred your point about your son being pitched to death is interesting...from what I have heard very few, if any high school teams just like the major leagues have enough quality pitching. Most high school coaches will leave their pitchers in a little too long since they dont have a bullpen to speak of...and I get a chuckle when a high school varsity baseball coach says "we have seven real good pitchers", if you believe that then you will believe the Tigers will play one more game at Tiger Stadium. Translated, we have 2-3 arms and pray the other four dont have to pitch too long. Yeah, I heard it is not wise to give any "lip" at DLS...I have heard that one before, also heard it was the case at ND in Harper Woods...what is that called the phrase I am thinkg of??? help me out. Joe Loria would make a real good baseball coach at DLS. FF what do you think???

Slappy you are making a believer out of me...you got the scoop on Fracassa vs. Mach real fast and I was amazed at how similar their records were...two top notch guys.

Sort of like Bo vs. Woody???? Any Slappy you are probably right there is not much difference between the powers in Div 1 and 2 - I did not say all teams are equal in Div 1 and 2, just the power teams. I think a Rice/Dakota game would be a barnburner and no, I am not prediciting Dakota 85, Rice 0 like BM would. Looking at the power players list from the combine camps or whatever they are called, nice to see a player from Fraser on the list. That FB program has been in dire straits for a long time....their FB facility was the lousiest in the MAC for many years until just recently when they put up lights and an astro turf field. Last time they were any good, Jim Sorgi was the QB there as I remember. Long ago. And Fred why would the SL coach get "relieved" of his duties after having a 7-2 season? That sounds sort of bizarre. In years past all the Shores football teams would have disastrous records and no coaches would have been let go and in the mid to latter 90s Lakeshore went 4 seasons without winning one single game.

Yuk and Yikes!!!! Lakeview (Go Huskies!) went two or more seasons without a win in that period too I was told.

One reason why I think Ike can challenge Dakota in FB this season: their QB Copacia. Dakota will not have a QB that good this year. In fact Ike has lost the past 3-4 games to Dakota by very small scores like 23-20 and 3-0 and only a mirace finish last year at Utica High kept Dakota from possibly losing to Ike then. Dakota last year had a 22 point lead or so and Ike came back to tie as I remember and was charging hard...then who else but Rodney Hush ran a 95 yard TD return with seconds to go....broken hearts!!!!

Wonder what SH Stevenson will do this fall...all the talk as usual is about Dakota and the Titans dont like not getting their share of the ink....problem for Ike lately though is they have had smaller teams, more smaller than usual for them and how do you match up against the gorillas Dakota will have on their OL and DL lines??? Guys like 6-5 and 285??? eg. Jeff Fantuzzi....questions, questions, questions...and no doubt Detroit MLK benefitted from all the transfers into that program when Detroit closed more high schools. If you put Rice and CC together or Dakota, Chip and Stevenson together....get the point.

And Carl Thomas there is no doubt if there ever was a player Mr. Esler ever regretted leaving DLS it would have been JR...no names....have heard many tales on that situation, but FF what is the real story there????

Same with PK going to Utica...no names...FF the real story....probably a tad too chilly to go swimming today, it has been real cool at night, but the dogs and Killian's will be good. Wish I could figure out why my Jet Ski has no power...changed plugs and all...still weak???

Later, Tom and peace to all.

I get it

Nice work Larry. That's nice that every skilled postion at OLSM is on the list. You haven't mentioned Dion Sims yet, but I'm sure he's in the top 40. I sure hope they don't have anyone that can block or tackle.

Fri. 07/4/08 11:10 AM

Div1

Div these lists are compiled by the scouting guru's. The guy's review tape, observe the kids at the combines and get feedback from the college coaches.

Most of the players on the lists will be from the higher divisions. Every know and then their will be a stud at a lower division school.

I'm simply giving you guy's a list of the top 200 kids who are ranked by some scouting services. I can't help that the lower CHSL divisions aren't sending kids to big programs.

Anyway, I still have the top 40 to go. So the CHSL will defenitely have some guys ranked higher than the MAC. tay tuned!!!

Mr. NCAA

Sorry I didn't get your percentage exactly correct for you mathlete (I think I knew that in the first place, it was said for effect,) and it was a statement of opinion v. a statement of fact. I could have combed through all of those teams' records and found the statistics to back up my opinion in the other direction, because I am sure there are plenty of D1 teams that those D2-D4 schools have good records against. How does taking a singular matchup between one D1 school and a lower division school make for a solid comparison anyways? My point is that those schools in general can compete on any level, as opposed to BM's idea that because a school is in D1, they are automatically better. What I am saying is, nice reseach but you kind of missed the point. Reread some of the previous posts so the statement you took out of context makes more sense to you. p>

Things

Tom, me and Fred have had our dissagreements, and every program, on every level, have people that have their dissatisfaction with things. That's just the way it is, but Fred is still a LaSalle guy, and if he ever really needed me, I'd be there for him. By the way, South Lake's current coach is a LaSalle guy, former player and coach.

Larry, you do realize that the strength of the CHSL is the Central which is made up of only 6 teams, and the MAC has about 37. I know the strength of the MAC is the Red, but you have only named ranked kids from the CHSL Central, but you have named kids from the entire MAC. Never the less, an impressive list.

Wolves vs. Highlander since OAA formed

The Wolves hold a 8 - 5 edge in games won. Rochester Adams did won a D2 crown one year though, but Clarkston beat them during the regular season game. If you want to go long term, I found out that Clarkston went 6 - 3 in the other games against the Highlanders before the OAA was formed.

tommy boy and others

yes,DVI and i dont see eye to eye when it comes to dls baseball......my dissatisfaction with the program is well documented.....i wont rehash the past too much but sonny boy had a fine career with 20 wins and probably logged 200 innings on the mound......always wanted to be a position player but the powers that be didnt allow it unless it was an emergency for the most part......my son stood up for himself and that can be a no-no in that program....my biggest gripe is that the coaches didnt know when a pitcher was out of gas and would leave their starters in much too long usually ending in humiliation......but it is all water over the dam........i really feel kids get shafted in the program much too often one way or another and if you arent on the right side of the political fence u lose.....probably the same in most programs but i would think dls should be above that......and for the record i graduated from orchard lake many moons ago.....DVI and i have never met but we know who the other one is.....dls needs guys like DVI........he means well but is very opinionated.......we agree to disagree but my experiences are through my son........if we ever meet tom ill clue u in more......i believe dls has fine academics and sport programs...i think u are off base about the football coach....i think he is a fine coach.......i believe the guru is a basketball coach to die for......i dont think as much about the baseball coaches........a change would suit this program well i believe........they should be better considering their talent level.......but this is only my opinion........be it as it may.....tom ......u talk about south lakes football program.......they had a good coach in 05 and the kids loved him....the guy coached in fla and knows his stuff...but he was relieved of his duties after a 7-2 season.....dont they like winners in the shores??????........pray tell me about that one tommy !!!5-2 tigers as sheff delivers!!!!!!......verlander needs to pitch like an ace now!!!

More player rankings...

Here are a few more studs to keep your eyes on boys!!! We are working our way down the Elite #2oo football players heading into the 08 season. Earlier I posted players on the list ranging from #200 down to #100. The lads lited below are from #100 down to #42. Again the lower the ranking the higher the recruit is on the colleges wish lists.

Five players from the CHSL and four are from the Mike's mighty MAC. Tom, I mean Mike will have a boner...His MAC conference is up so far - 12 players profiled vs. the CHSL's - 8.

The race is tightening, Enjoy...

99) Serxho Guraleci (6'0 295 lbs Sr. DT) Sterling Heights Stevenson. He was unstoppable at the Ohio State Nike Camp. He is short but he is a fierce competitor that has a motor that doesn't stop. He was 1st Team All-Macomb County. He is know for causing havoc in the backfield and his relentless pass rushing skills.

89) Justin Semmes (6'1 220 lbs Sr. FB/LB) Orchard Lake St Mary. His brother committed to Iowa last year now it is Justin's turn to be in the spotlight. Justin played FB and LB last season. When you have 5-7 D1 senior athletes each year for OLSM the underclassmen can tend to go unnoticed. Justin is a physical runner with great speed. He hasn't done much to get his name out this off-season and it has hurt him.

88) Taylor Copacia (6'4 190 lbs Sr. QB) Utica Eisenhower. Taylor has the size and arm to be a big-time QB at the next level. His father is a QB instructor, so you can be sure his mechanics are flawless. He has accuracy, velocity and a great deep ball. This is his opportunity to take Ike deep into the playoffs.

68) Suave Lavallis (5'10 180 lbs Sr. Athlete) Orchard Lake St Mary. OLSM has major D1 talent every year and it is starting to rise to the top as the summer goes along. Suave is a tremendous athlete that can play DB, WR and is an EXCITING return man on special teams. Look for Suave to have a spectacular 2008 season and a player that could be playing in the Big 10 in college.

66) Khaled Mheisen (6'5 290 lbs Sr. DT) Detroit Catholic Central. Didn't play in 2007 because of an injury. He did extremely well in the 1-on-1 drills against Micajah Reynolds (Committed to MSU). Khaled put up 19 reps at 225 lbs at the Michigan Preps Combine in August. HUGE upside and one of the top sleepers if not the top for the Class of 2009.

59) Shaquille Marshall (6'0 225 lbs Sr. FB/LB) Birmingham Brother Rice. He is a tough physical player that was the lead blocker at FB last season for Caulton Ray (MSU). Shaq did 14 reps at 225 and ran a low 4.6 at the Michigan Preps Combine in April. He will be one of the main players for a great Brother Rice team. He is a big bruising runner with speed on offense and is a big hitter at LB on defense. Brother Rice is loaded with talent and Marshall is one of the players that will help Rice compete for a State title this season.

57) Jon Czerwienski (6'5 280 lbs Sr. OT) Fraser. Jon received an offer from CMU. He probably would have more if he got his name out more to the other schools. Jon put up 16 reps at 225 at the Michigan Preps combine. He was dominant all season in 2007. He is one of the best players to come out of Fraser in a long time. He is a big powerful linemen that is a great run blocker with nice footwork. He has loads of potential and see him getting lot of Big 10 looks in the near future. Great prospect!!!

43) Rod Woodland (5'9 180 lbs Sr. WR) Orchard Lake St Mary. Rod is arguably the top Slot WR in Michigan. He has an early offer from Central Michigan. He runs precise routes and has 4.4 speed. He is another great player at OLSM. Rod has worked extremely hard this off-season and it has paid dividends for him. He is not finished with the offers and with a great QB in Rob Bolden Woodland will be a nightmare for opposing defensive coordinators. He has huge potential at the highest level.

42) Jeff Fantuzzi (6'4 280 lbs Sr. OG) Macomb Dakota. Fantuzzi has racked up 6 MAC offers this off-season. He was the best linemen on a 2X Division 1 State Championship team. He plays against the best competition in Macomb County. Jeff will be an OG at the next level. He is extremely close to getting a BCS offer. He has worked extremely hard in improving his athleticism this off-season. Jeff is a tough nasty offensive linemen that had over 80 pancakes in 2007. He has all the intangibles and leadership skills to help his team try and 3 peat in 2008. Fantuzzi has been getting a ton of interest from North Carolina and NC State in the ACC and could be heading south. His play on the field last year has been tough to match by other linemen in Michigan.

all star teams

Carl you do realize that a majority (if not all since I'm not sure of a few) of the teams on his list can be considered all star teams as well since they are either private schools that get students from multiple ciites, townships, etc. or is/was a school of choice school. So apply your standard to the teams that CHSL Slappy listed as well.

comparing divisions

CHSL Slappy wrote:

"DVI you know BM will always hate DLS just to hate DLS, and will always say the MAC is the greatest no matter what. DLS could be ranked #1 in the USA Today football poll and he would say it is biased because they are a private school, and they play easy competition in D2. Tom/Mike- Here are the teams that are better, year in and year out than 99% of all of the D1 teams. Brother Rice, De La Salle, OLSM, Musky, FHH, Lowell, East Grand Rapids, Rochester Adams, Zeeland West, Jackson Lumen Christi, etc. Tell me why D1 is better now. OK I will give you the following teams as being good in D1. Dakot, IKE, CC and Rockford."

Just for starters 99% of 63 teams is 62.37 teams. So for you to list 4 programs passes your 99% standard right away. This means don't put out outrageous statements. FHH is only 3 - 3 vs. Clarkston even since they joined the OAA. This isn't considered better in my book. Plus OLSM and Warren DeLaSalle has won exactly el zippo state championships at the D2 or D3 levels. Adrian has a winning record vs. JLC so do some research next time. Adrian hasn't won a state championship in either D2 or D3. It is funny how a historical D1 program like Detroit Martin Luther King cruised to a D2 state championship just last year.

Tom

I believe by JR you mean Jeremey Resmer. That kid was a stud point guard at Ford. I'm sure Esler realized his mistake by not committing to him. Those guys were fun to watch in football also with Krenzel at the helm.

The Scene, ahem....

Hi posters, Tom W. again, and FF and DVI what in the heck are you guys arguing about??? Splain in detail...and Fred did your son truly get a bad deal at DLS in some sport or something??? Not trying to pry......I would imagine the varsity BB coach has made some enemies with cuts and who plays too....just by his reputation. I heard the football coach at DLS is a rough and ready guy too with the players.

And FF and DVI arent you guys former Pilots...dont both ground your airplanes!!!!! Slappy if your info is correct we have pretty much a dead heat....No doubt Fracassa and Mach solid, top notch coaches. I wont argue with either man.

Quickly now, who was South Lake's FB coach in 1972, 1979, 1984, 1988, 1994, 1999, and 2004...if you can name correctly all those coaches you are the top guru/genius of all time in macomb county sports. I doubt there are 5 people in all of SCS who could correctly give you an answer to that question. I'd bet even BM could not name them all.

And I do understand a hidden problem plauging DLS over the years has been fat headed kids and parents who think their sons should make varsity in all sports in their freshman if not their sophomore years...if they dont get their way (s) they transfer out to another school. Anyone remember one family of brothers who left and went to Ford II 10 years ago...no names. JR became an all county BB star at Ford II.

....ridiculous I say. It is a numbers game always, 50 kids try out for varsity BA or BB and they can only take about 15 kids on the team...not like FB where there pretty much are few if any cuts made. Lakeview varsity hockey had over 80 kids try out back in the day...I got cut the first day...guess it was my backhander!!!!

Maybe it was because I shot a puck on the ice that got stuck in the zamboni machine before it got off the ice...that did not help matters. Rink manager wanted to know who did it and I was too scared to fess up....

Used to buy hockey sticks at Radke hardware on Harper for $7.00 apiece in the day, now the same sticks are about $40.00 apiece....is that inflation or stagflation????

Guess we will have to ask the Fed Reserve director....

Hear the weather is good the entire weekend....dont drink too much and keep the gates locked to the pools!!! Later, Tom and peace to all.

Fred

reread the post DVI.i said nothing about my son...talking about the program in general....at least one poster knew what i was saying and verified as such......u would be surprised how many people feel the way i do...but stay in denial DVI...doesnt hurt so badly that way.......u know about the silent majority ..right????
