Relative uncovers great-aunt's honor killing

Donna Terek / The Detroit News

Karen Tintori, author of "Unto the Daughters," visits Belle Isle on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007 -- the first visit since she learned that relatives had murdered her great-aunt Frances there at age 16. According to Tintori's older relatives, Frances was killed by her two older brothers who sought to restore honor to the family after she kept up her involvement with a suitor her father objected to. He was adamant that she marry a much older man, who was high up in one of the local Italian gangs.
