The Tigers president addressed the Detroit Economic Club on April 22, 1991 and proposed a knockdown of Tiger Stadium to be replaced by a stadium in an enterprise zone. "There's only one (Detroit) team that's playing in an old facility," he said. "And it's unfair for you to think that you can shackle us to a rusty girder in Tiger Stadium and expect us to compete and win because it's not going to happen."
