Love Lockdown

He sounds like he is trying to continue the ride on the Daft Punk train but he forgot his baggage.... which contained beats.

Detroit News Blogs

Why are the blog's comment section an open thread instead of a separate thread for each article/posting? It makes no sense. When people want to discuss one topic they have to sort through all of the other nonsense relating to unrelated stories. This is why no one is commenting.

But this is an improvement over Graham's old News blog where you couldn't comment because it gave you an error message every time you tried. I guess this is progress.

And the fact that when you submit a comment it asks you to preview it in HTML code doesn't help anything either.

The interwebs are a tricky thing. Hopefully the Detroit News will find their way out of the web soon and make this a more interactive destination that the people desire.

Rock-afire

Usher's video is better choreographed but the Arcade Fire song is much better edited, produced and disturbing. I can't wait to see future productions.

GNR

Remember when GNR performed at the VMAs and everyone thought it was proof that a "Chinese Democracy" release must be imminent?

Yeah... that was 2002.

Right on.

Ok, so I think I'm the last person in the world to see this movie, but Paul and I finally got around to it last night. When I got out of the theater, I couldn't for the life of me understand why people were fawning over this movie so much, when it's so obviously flawed. Anyway, I knew I had to come back here and read what had annoyed you about it, and I agree with you about everything.

I'm a reasonably intelligent person, and I had a hard time following what was going on in this movie. The opening sequence with the Scarecrow confused the hell out of me, and the rest of the time I was just squinting at the screen, trying to figure out what was going on. I also hated the recasting with Maggie Gyllenhaal. I'm biased becase she bugs me to no end, but still I think I could easily come up with a list of actresses better suited for the role.

Anyway, thanks for cohesively putting all my complaints into print, so when people ask me what I didn't like about the movie, I can just point to this post.

Wow - not a fan, I guess...

Just a brief one, as some of your technical gripes are understood. Nolan is not an action director per se (although "The Dark Knight" shows some amazing cinematic evolution since "Batman Begins"). But part of the mystique of the Batman's physical prowess is his ninja-like abilities - and, obviously, those might be very hard to see, especially in the dark.

But seriously, if you've never even thought about the first Nolan Batman film since the end of it's credits the first (and only?) time you saw it, I'm guessing you're not a fan of the comic and therefore know nothing of the ever-changing tone the characters have gone through, especially in the last 23 or so years.

Suggestion - forget the '60's TV series, and all the other "films" besides these two from Nolan.

Then pick up a copy of Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns". It's usually on Amazon, used, for under $10.

Perhaps this will aid you in understanding the general tone of this film "The Dark Knight".

Personally, I find it quite refreshing that this film's amazing success in the box office points to the fact that audiences are tired of lobotomized summertime sugar-coated trash that blow'd stuff up good, pimps out pop singles on the blaring soundtrack and bombards the viewer with an endless stream of product placement, bad acting and ridiculous writing.

Maybe stick to watching the popcorn-action-no-brainer summertime fare you seem to ache for?

I hear the latest "Mummy" flick might be just what you're

looking for.

ubermovieguy

P.S. I am glad you at least acknowledged Ledger's amazing work.

P.P.S. I'd also recommend grabbing a copy of "Watchmen" before you see the film in March. It may come in handy if you choose to bash that film. Batman fans are quite passionate, but Watchmen fans are absolutely merciless.

Rothbury

Hey, we drove by the Rothbury site just a little while ago on our way back from Up North. Wow, a sea of tents just off the highway. Cool! I wonder if all the celebs popping in over the weekend will come back to vacation. :)

No more c(rap)

Whose bright idea was it to start booking c(rap)pers at MUSIC festivals? Is anyone really surprised that Snoop gave a bad performance? What else did you expect?

Personally, having acts like this would probably change my mind about going to one of these festivals. It's just not what I go to a venue like that for, and the type of crowd it draws is less than desirable.

Keep the music festivals about the MUSIC and maybe you'll have fewer disappointed guests.

Need anything at Rothbury? Try the Organic Farmers Market!

Hey, forget those Krispy Kremes and Chips Ahoy - ROTHBURY has Michigan's only all organic farmers market attending for the whole weekend. Where else will you get grass fed beef jerky in four fabulous flavors, double espresso brownies, and certified organic strawberry shortcake....along with all the usual freshly harvested local organic produce? Check out the market in between the music - these farmers have worked hard to bring festival goers the best organically grown food in Michigan!

ETC

Can't believe you went there, man. I thought we buried that boy band past?

Also, let your peeps know that the process to register comments on your blogs is beyond annoying.

ETC

Maggie and I forgot all about ETC. Thanks for reminding us. I just went back and read the "interview" of ETC in CM Life, so good.

Top Moment of Girl Talk

Can't get enough of the album. Best moment on a personal front is Chuck D booming over Heart's "Magic Man" ... I almost went out of my lane when that hit on the car stereo.

Moulin Rouge!

"Moulin Rouge!" the "greatest film ever made"? That garbage was an affront to all that is good about the cinema and Luhrmann is a hack. Here's hoping he disappears for another 7 years after "Australia" tanks.

Maybe you saw John Huston's 1952 film "Moulin Rouge". Now that was a good movie.

We value your feedback, so please let us know if you have any questions or problems.

Threading in forums

We are working on adding threading to the forums. Clicking on the headline of a post will now get you related posts in a few different ways.

- If the post was sent to us in response to an article, clicking on that post's headline will retrieve all comments on that article, and clicking on the "See related article" link will send you to the article itself.

- If the comment was submitted in response to a cybersurvey, clicking on the headline will take you to the cybersurvey and its related comments.

- If you click on the headline of a forum post that was simply posted in the forum, you will get all posts with that same headline.

If you want to add a comment to a thread in the forum, use the same headline as the post to which you want to respond.

If you find a problem, please tell us, and thanks in advance for your patience as we work to improve the forums for you.
