Hello...
Hi Catherine, (Sorry about the previous test post. I wanted to make sure it wasn't public before I posted!) I'm also in the Introduction to Judaism (I loved the comment Warren posted!) and just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog and enjoy your questions in class. I'm a "newbie" to all of this and I learn from your blog and the discussion in class. I have had a strong interest in Judaism for years. As I wrote in a comment on the blog, I have ancestors that were Jewish but my immediate family was not. I don't have a Jewish name or appearance - those things are on the family tree but they don't play into my existence. I've been reading books on Judaism for quite some time and then one of the Rabbis spoke at a Universalist Unitarian church I used to frequent and when I looked Temple Isael to learn more about it I saw this class and really wanted to sign up(it seemed fate!) Conversion for me would be very complicated as I have no Jewish family or even connections and I'm already married with children. That could get a bit tricky. Nonetheless, I keep learning and I figure my heart will tell me what to do. I just wanted to tell you that I relate to your blog so much even though we are in different situations we are still both rather "non-traditional" if you will. I know it's busy with the holiday season for the next couple weeks but if you ever have time after that, I'd love to ask you a few questions. My email is elktrot@comcast.net I hope you have a wonderful visit with your family and enjoy the holidays (my youngest son and I have been reading books on the holidays and now he wants to celebrate the New Year so we will make an attempt at it in our own way!) Best Wishes, Christy

Slam the working man......
Nice. Slam a guy for trying to make a living. Wonder what it cost to buy the banner, rent the plane and pilot. Probably expensive. Oh well at least he got slammed by a no name blogger at the Detroit News.
Have you heard of this?
I've been a long time reader of your blog (although not a particularly active commentator).. My son went to the PGA expo in Vegas last week and he brought home this golf bracelet that almost looked like a watch. I have to say, I have used the Q-ray bracelets before which I felt a very moderate change in how I felt, nothing really substantial, though. But this bracelet has a solar panel in it and I guess there is some form of an electro magnet in it and it is supposed to reduce stress, blood pressure, and possibly strokes on your golf game. I admit I was pretty skeptical of how effective it would be and then I tried it on Wednesday afternoon for my customary mid-week round. After about a half hour I felt noticably calmer and I golfed 5 strokes under my average. I was absolutely shocked. I couldnt find any information online about it, other then the website on the brochure (www.solarragolf.com) and I was wondering if this is one of those pro secrets that no common golfers know about, or if its something that nobody knows about yet, period? I mean in golf how many products do we all try that don't live up as advertised? I mean this bracelet is great and I cant help but tell everyone I know.. I know this is kind of a rant but let me know if this is in fact some kind of pro secret, or if you don't know about it you should check it out because this bracelet is absolutely amazing. Being Jewish
Catherine-- Congratulations on finding your faith, if indeed you have found it. I just stumbled on your blog. As you have made a commitment to openly examining your conversion, I feel I should share one question to see if you want to address it. It's well-known that Asian-Americans are a 'model' minority, and that Jewish folks have been quite successful in America. Certainly in Detroit there's no arguing that our richest suburbs are often populated by Jewish folks. Is there any part of your conversion that might consciously or unconsciously be wishing to 'merge' these two cultural streams, striving for the perfect socio-cultural 'recipe' (pardon the metaphor) for that most American longing: success? Regards, Jack
Orthodox Jews
Catherine: As a "Reform Judaism" Jew, is it your intention to adhere to the strict dictates of the Torah, or is it your intention to submit to the Talmud? Regarding the former, will you support the orthodoxy of NETUREI KARTA? See: http://www.nkusa.org/index.cfm CarsFirst
also considering conversion to Judaism
Hello Catherine, I just ran across your initial blog post, and being one who has explored the many religions finding only comfort with reform Judaism, I look eagerly forward to reading about your journey. I do hope that you take the time to write about it! Kindest regards, Tom Lee Detroit
Becoming Jewish
Dear Ms. Jun: The choice to embrace the Jewish faith cannot be taken lightly. Our faith is based on respect for G*D, our family, our community, and not least of all ... ourselves! Judaism is not just a religion, but a way of life, and I am certain that you have thought about this journey (upon which you are about to embark), seriously. Welcome! And I hope that your experience is an enriched one. After all ... Connie Chung is among our 'tribe'! Yours for a better Detroit!
Tiger Woods is out for the season!
Well I guess my name must be "Nobody" because I watch golf. So does my father, and brother in law, his brother, his father. In fact they're meeting in Cali this weekend to play Pebble. Then there are the tens of thousands of "nobody's'" who show up at various golf courses each week to watch the PGA and oh yeah the biggest sports industry in the world involves the sale of golf equipment. So to my ignorant friend from South Lyon, while bouncing back and forth between NASCAR and drag racing coverage, have a Pabst an a smile and Shut the "ef" up.
Tiger Woods is out for the season!
Who cares, nobody watches golf.
Tiger Woods is out for the season!
Tiger Woods' problems are worse than most anyone knew. In addition to his knee problem, he has been playing with two stress fractures. Read the announcement and Tiger's prognosis on his Web site.
What do you think? Will he come back as strong as ever?
Ann Arbor Golf Courses
I would love to share a great find in Ann Arbor Golf Courses. Has anyone ever played Stonebridge Golf Club? It is a public course that plays like private course conditions. Check out their website to make a tee time www.stonebridgegolfclub.net Ann Arbor Golf Course - Stonebridge Golf Club

The Master
Gasp: You seem to have a good handle on the situation. Think Mr. Woods will win the Masters? Who among the international players do you fancy?
