Hey Jodie!
Hope you'll post a pic of your new haircut soon. I'm getting one next week....only for a family picture...since it's all gonna fall out again! Oh well. Hope all is well with you!

Haircut
When I had to have short hair for the Army, in my off time, when I didn't have to wear a hat- (or soft cap, as we refered to it), I used hair clips and sprunch spray while I was growing it out.
The worst part of growing it out is the time when it hangs down over your neck and you can't pull it up. During this fabulous time, I hated my hair, I would tug on it and encourage it to grow and then when reality set in and I had to dress for work, I used bobby pins.
I twisted it up (using spray to hold it in place) and held it down with the bobby pins.
On the other hand, a hair cut feels great, much better than dreading the morning styling process.
Hair Salon
Hi Jodie,
My last chemo was the end of September last year. I only had it trimmed when it first started growing out. I just went to get a haircut this week. I feel so much better. I got the chemo out of my hair and it feels so much better. I went to Changez Salon in Royal Oak. They are located at 13 mile and Crooks. Jason is the owner and was also my hairstylist. He did such a great job. He told me how to maintain "curly" hair, how to use the blow dryer, what products to use in my hair, etc.... I have never had curly hair so it really helped me. I love my cut!

It's a bit of a drive, but I recommend Platinum Hair Designs in Dearborn Hts. on Telegraph just north of Cherry Hill. The salon owner, Kelly, is a breast cancer survivor and has gone through similar hair issues. Any of the girls that work there do a great job. Their number is 313-730-1691.
Good luck with the new 'do!
Jodie and her radiation treatments
Jodie:
I think you look adorable with your new 'do'. I would leave it short because you are so beautiful with that style. Of course, it's your hair and you need to do what you feel comfortable with but I still think you should wear it short.
Hair Salon
I totally reccomend Studio Nine Salon...My girl is Kelly.

Local Hair Salon
Hi Jodie~
I've been following your blog for quite some time now, but have never commented. You are an amazing woman! I'm so glad that you have chosen to document your journey to the readers. Thank you! Like the previous posted, I was going to recommend Woodward Avenue Salon in Ferndale. I've been seeing one of their stylists for as long as I can remember. Denise is amazing and will not disappoint you! I love the trendy short cuts that are super popular right now. You go girl!

Haircut
I went through some radiation that caused my hair to be very damaged, breakable - and to fall out. My hair became very thin, was nearly impossible to brush and was knotted from all of the shedding hair getting caught into the hair that was trying to stay on my head!
I saw Kim at the Woodward Avenue Salon, and she was able to do very nice things with what I had left. I was nervous and particular about going to a salon, given the tenderness of my head and trying to keep up - at least what I could - of a hairstyle. She did a wonderful job, was very careful and very undertanding which eased my nerves.
So, it's not a Royal Oak salon, but it is in Ferndale, one block S of 9 on Woodward and is pretty reasonable. If you are looking for a place in this area, I'd recommend it.
breast cancer
So often I hear of patients who have little hope of a cure with traditional therapies, such as Stage 4 patients. I want everyone to know about a formula I found out about in my own fight with breast cancer. Luckily I was diagnosed with stage 2 so I had lumpectomy, radiation and chemotherapy. I finished treatment 2 years ago. I have declined hormone therapy due to severe side effects. I have started taking this formula called "Protocel". It is an easy to take liquid formula but must be taken 5 times daily. I have read about amazing cures with this formula, no joke, on patients who had exhausted traditional therapies. Please, please, read about it yourself on the website for this formula: webnd.com
Click on the "Press Release" and read about a woman who had multiple cancers with no hope of a cure until she started taking the formula and within 6 months the cancers had gone away. I want to save your life! There is hope.
shoes
Jodie-
I've walked several half marathons and I always go to Hanson's in Royal Oak (on Rochester just north of 13 Mile) for my shoes. You should check it out, if you haven't already. Good luck with the 3 Day!
Melissa
Good for you!
Jodi - I'm happy to hear you are making a speedy recovery and not letting a big surgery like you had get in your way. I hope your fifteen mile walk wasn't too grueling. We walked 18 miles yesterday and I had a blister beforehand. I bled through my sock and down my brand new shoes by the time the walk was 1/2 way through. But, I kept walking. I had to tell myself, I've dealt with much worse than a silly blister! I need to purchase some good mole skin and maybe some better socks! I'm getting really excited for the 3-Day. It's going to be so uplifting and emotional after all we've been through. I said on one of my blogs that the money I've raised is probably just a "drop in the bucket" compared to what the Breast Cancer 3-Day and Susan Komen Foundation generate, but it's "my" drop in the bucket and I'd like to think that it will go towards making a difference in someone's life. Keep walking. Walk for those who can't. Stay strong Jodi. You're doing terrific!
recent surgery
Hi Jodie, I am so sorry to hear of your recent surgery and the resulting delay in your progress. As always you have put a positive spin on a situation that I would have handled much differently with alot of screaming and tears! Please keep up your spirits and hugs to you and Bob. Love, Tina
My best wishes to you
While I do not have cancer, I do have a disease that has left me slightly disabled. And though I though my journey was over, I have found out I have more to come.
I will keep you in my thoughts. I have two family members that have fought and beaten cancer. So I will only wish you too, will beat it back.
Keep fighting.
complications
I am so sorry to hear about your complications. I so get what you're saying about just wanting to get it all over with and get on with your cancer-free life! I have an acquaintance who wants me to join a breast cancer support group that she wants to start and although I know I could get some good information out of it, most of me wants to just get all this stuff done and not think about it again. But like you said, it's not that simple.
I pray that things get better for you. I hope you find a good place to go for mastectomy products. For clothes, being young and hip, you'd be better off just finding a good seamstress who can "pocket" items to fit breast forms. I was thinking that someone needs to start a line of products...bras, swimsuits, tanks, etc. for younger victims of breast cancer and call it 2CUTE4CANCER!
Thinking about and praying for you. Another temporary one boober...

sending good thoughts
Hi Jodie,
This breast cancer thing is never as straightforward as we would think, is it? I'm a 35 year old who has been going through all of this stuff this year...after a double mastectomy and reconstruction I developed an infection on my "cancer side" and had the expander removed. I've been totally flat on that side for 3 months now while I go through chemo (only one more treatment to go - I've done 5 treatments of TAC now), and will try again 8 weeks after chemo is over.
You may not think this now, but it will all be just fine. My "breast form" is really quite nice, Lands End sells mastectomy bathing suits (I'm actually wearing it right now, went swimming tonight in the lake), and the breast form looks and feels real enough that my baby nephew was fooled into thinking it was a working breast like his mom has. Just tell yourself, at least I am totally safe on that side...and it will all be a memory before we know it.
I'm thinking of you, though, and hoping you can get over the emotional hurdle this all is probably presenting for you right now. Contact me if I can ever do anything for you: pamlucken.blogspot.com
