Wow. Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Blue Oyster Cult and Steppenwolf are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? That's BANANAS! Do Donna Summer, the Carpenters and Barry White really belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Just call it the Pop Music Hall of Fame, or the Legendary Music Hall of Fame or something. If it's not ROCK, why is it in? I also think it's too soon for some of those bands, even if they are eligible. -- Melody
Re: Celebrities invade Detroit nightlife
"According to sources, Drew is also a fan of the Greektown Fishbone's sushi (me too!). Her assistant has picked up sushi to go for her a few times. Drew, try the Dragon Roll! Word is she also had a dinner party there and the Charlie's Angel is a very, very good tipper."
Melody, can you give me an advance notice of when Drew Barrymore comes to town again, so I can get her phone number to phone home like ET the Extra terrestrial. Ha Ha Ha!!!!
cheech and chong
I can't imagine how these two 60 something year olds can still do the same humor they did 40 years ago. Why would they want to revive that act? Now days being a stoner isn't that funny, especially an old stoner. It's about as funny as being homeless.
Or, have they changed their act?
Evidently there is enough interest. They just added a second show! It's 10 p.m. on Sept. 20. Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 22.
Celebs at The Stick Sat night
I happen to be one of the fortunate few who had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy Fallon, Drew Berrymore and Ellen Page on Saturday night at The Magic Stick. Unfortunately this group wasn't there specifically there for the concert, in fact they showed up shortly after midnight (prob in the middle of The Go Team's set) they hung out everywhere, but found themselves comfy on the new outside upper deck. Some of the men within the group came to me to talk and seemed very nice. Jimmy and Drew popped by us a few times to chat and I soon discovered that they were just really normal people, its true I swear! The three celebs were just basically chilling, dancing like crazy to the music and drinking good old PBR and Miller Highlife. Everything that happened after The Stick is secret, but was a lot of fun:)
Scarlett, thanks for the dish! I heard Fallon was at the CAID later on in the night, too! -- Melody
Glass Act
So Melody, I read that you are a barmaid, so which bar do you work at so I can try one of your delicious drinks?
I'm a bartender, yes. I work at various bars in Hamtramck throughout the week, and I'll be working the beer tents at the Hamtramck Festival Labor Day Weekend :) -- Melody
Re: Metro Music Expo but what about
That is good about the Metro Music Expo Melody but what about the Warp tour at comerica park, I don't see no mention of that from you! Geez and I was hoping you would talk about that.
Is the scroll down feature on your computer broken? :) It's the last entry on this page. That is, until I blog again, then it'll be the first entry on the next page. -- Melody
SonicBids & Metro Music Expo
Sonic Bids is loathsome! They charge outrageous fees to do little more than host an electronic press kit. MySpace, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs do much the same, for free!
THEN..
SonicBids "partners" with anyone who can then charge a fee for submission for a given whatever.
The Metro Music Expo charges $10. Multiply that by a few hundred, and you see it's some real dough--with no guarantee of so much as a call back.
This is akin to charging $10 to submit one's resume' for a job opening. Bet the press would be all over THAT company!
Honest and ethical promoters, producers, publishers and labels, NEVER charge to submit materials!
Shame on The News for not exposing this unethical practice--even endorsing it!
Thanks for posting, Chuck! I'm not ecouraging bands to pay for Sonic Bids and apply for MME, I'm just letting them know that now is the time if they are interested. Bands and musicians are always asking me when is the right time to apply for things like this, and festivals. -- Melody
show me the money
i don't want to hear about anyone bring any real anything "back to the D" again. saying something like "we're bringing real rock back to the D" is as cliche as telling someone to talk to the hand. GO DETROIT ROCK CITY NIGHTCLUB, IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY (insert cabbage patch dance)
Detroit Rock City
There's also going to be a great show by Death Cab for Cutie at the Fox tonight. Between that, STP, and hopefully a Wings victory it should be a crazy night in Det tonight!
rick derringer
Melody, I'm old enough to be your Rock N Roll Daddy. Rick Derringer was a member of the McCoys, y'know, of Hang On Sloopy fame, a garage band of the 60s. He went on to play with Johnny Winter when I saw him at the Eastown in Johnny Winter And. The other band on the bill that night was Humble Pie with Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton. I believe Rick Derringer wrote Rock N Roll Hootchie Coo and had a version out but Johnny Winter is better known for having covered the song when Rick brought it along with him to Johnny's band.
Yo Daddy, D
Attackf of the 90's
OMG... this concert list is blowing my mind.
Thanks Melody
Thanks for the ingredients on making Mudslide drink Melody. XOXOXOXO!!!!!!
My Mistake Melody
"I never call myself a party girl, but plenty of other people do! Ha ha. -- Melody"
Ok, my mistake, so you ain't the party girl, I thought you as Melody, Maybe you are the Gossip Girl of entertainment. Do you know how to make a Mudslide Drink? But please give us the lowdown on whose gonna be performing at that festival.
Tsk, tsk, tsk,
"You may have heard something about the Metro Music Expo, during the Hamtramck Blowout in March. I also wrote about on my blog around the same time."
No I didn't hear of the Metro Music Expo, just like you didn't hear or even talked about the Fushion4 festival coming Sunday, May 25 2008 Melody. I am surprise you didn't talk about this event that is happening in Detroit, and you call yourself a party gal ha lol!!!
Yeah, isn't that techno or something? :) Sounds like one of the many Movement-related parties happening that weekend. I'm sure it's mentioned in this week's paper with our Movement '08 coverage (check out Thursday's My Time!). You won't find much electronic music-related content on this blog, but the paper will have plenty of coverage this week and next. I never call myself a party girl, but plenty of other people do! Ha ha. -- Melody
Smoking Ban
I am all for the ban on smoking in public places like bars and restaurants, and workplace, smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer and it can be passed on to people though secondhand smoke, and I don't want my family and kids breathing the bad air cause by others. Healthcare is expensive these days, and the buttheads who smoke, probably can afford the high cost of healthcare, but the smokers don't want to pay for non-smoker's healthcare if they get lung cancer, cause by the smokers nasty habits.
I would suggest smokers bring plenty of chewing gum when they go out, or go sit in their cars to smoke. So PFFTTT!!!
