Blame Bush

Nolan Finley is a hypocrite. The deficit is Bush's fault, nobody else's. It's about time those making over $150,000 pay their fair share of taxes and lower the deficit. When 5% of the population holds 75% of the wealth (and increasing), your damn right it's class warfare. Time to take back the middle class.

Senate is pot to automakers' kettle

Your reference to Social Security.

I'm 63 years old, best I can tell, our Congressional Leaders have no intention of ever paying out more than is received on a "cash basis". Over the years, they have raised rates as well as years for the individual to receive this supplemental benefit.

I think the real theory behind social security is, lets use it as a teaser. If we find people live longer, we will just raise the retirement age so that on average we will pay out no more than the individuals paid-in in a 3 year period. That way we can keep what the employer paid in, if that's a little short, we'll just tweek the rate. In essence: "There is no way we ever intend to reimburse social security for what we have taken."

For this reason, I believe social security is a bad investment, even in these troubled times for the younger generation.

Expertise on lack of credibility

The author of this article demonstrates authority on lack of credibility: this article lacks credibility. The article begins by making the point that the United States is in budget deficit and our national debt is so large that it will never be paid off. It then goes on to criticize lawmakers for questioning the need to spend an additional $25 billion dollars. Regardless of the merit of the "Detroit Three's" argument, Mr. Finley can't have it both ways; he can't bash lawmakers for spending taxpayer's money and then bash them for questioning the need to spend additional taxpayer's money.

Obama's economic plan doesn't add up

Of course 70% of Americans feel that the President elect will improve the economy...there is only way to go - UP!!! It's easy to be the take all the credit for saving the economy when you come into a down economy. Obama doesn't even have to do anything, the business cycle will eventually go up and Obama will get all the credit.

I find that the President elect - Obama - has already taken advantage of the American people by already telling the people that he won't be able to accomplish what he said he would! Then he brings his mother-in-law to come live with him?! How many more relatives are the American taxpayers going to have to flip the bill for?

Why don't isn't this issue being disclosed and what exactly is Obama willing to pay back to the American people on the bills - electric, water, heat, food, etc.? I am paying the President elect a salary when he gets into office, so why can't he find a way to take his disposable income and purchase an apt, etc?

Inept Triumvirate Created the Michigan Collapse

The problem for the American economy sits squarely in the lap of Mr. Obama's distinguished predecessors, former presidents Johnson, Carter & Clinton.

This inept triumvirate created the house of credit that finally collapsed. The theory that you can borrow your self into prosperity is rubbish.

We see that this has happened in the States of Arizona, Washington and the entire country.

We are supposed to have the freedom of the press but that's another story of a dismal failure, isn't it?

Granholm snuck out on Boondoggle

Granholm snuck out on Boondoggle

Well Dear Governor managed to sneak out under cover of all the fawning over the Go bomb.

This is why we have problems in this state and this country because the entire news media are nothing more than a massive propaganda machine. We wouldn't dare question the intentions of Dear Governor, would we?

Dear Governor doesn't need to be out of the state on a trip to the Mid East for any reason. It's absolute hogwash that there is any reason to look anywhere other then the resources of our state for our economic salvation. What is all the money going to the colleges and universities going to accomplish? Where the Detroit News with the questions?

The State is on the brink of a financial precipice and the citizens of the state, with some exceptions, are all consumed with to be UAW or not to be UAW. Of course, our bungling, Berserkly, buffoon is just out fiddling while Michigan slides into the abyss.

We are supposed to have the freedom of the press but that's another story of a dismal failure, isn't it?

Corporate taxes net of the loop holes

Nolan always rants about America's high corporate tax rate, yet he conveniently neglects to mention that thanks to generous loopholes, many corporations pay no taxes at all. In an interview with Tom Brokaw, Warren Buffet pointed out that his total tax bill as a percentage of his income came to 17.7%, while the average tax rate for 15 of his office staff was 32.9%. Buffett, as with many wealthy individuals, paid a lower tax rate than his receptionist.

Never forget what billionaire Leona Helmsley famously said: "We don't pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes."

Obama's economic plan doesn't add up

Nolan- you haven't talked to Libby today have you? If you had she would remind you that Obama does no wrong. He is all seeing and all knowing. You are correct when you say Obama will tell us that 4 years is not enough time to clean up the mess left by the republican administration. Media will call everything he says or does "historical and or brilliant"

Get used to it Nolan, and go get a tall glass of Obama flavored kool-aid from Libby

Nolan Finleys Blog

Like Rush and the rest of your ilk, you just read the talking points and repeat them. you have no clue as to a solution, you just don't want "him" to have the right answer.Nolan you need to check the tax rates for business in Sweden,Germany,Spain, and other EU countries. As for unions they are the only guard against the greed of the wealthy. If you make more then $250.000.00 per year as an individiual you need to pay 35% tax. Business who pay lawyers to avoid paying there taxes need to be prosucuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Cheer up things can get worse

Ok Nolan, maybe you are correct in thinking that Obama may have the wrong approach to the economy. So what advice would you give him? Maybe ask for Senator (the economy is sound) McCain's help? Or maybe ask for President Bush's help? We all know that the economy under his watch has been a grand SUCCESS.

If I remember correctly Nolan, weren't you in support of Bush's economic plans when he was elected??? So excuse me if I don't pay much attention to your cynycism to anything related to President Elect Obama.

By the way, I hear that the re-elect McCain to the Senate team is looking for a PR person...I think you would get the gig without even having to interview.

Obama's economic plan

Mr. finley,

The world does not revolve around your glorious corporations. Seems to me the big three CEO's (With the exception of Mr. Mullaly at Ford) along with Former Governor Engler have done all they can to run their businesses into the ground. Waggoner Should be fired, Nardelli is worthless and if Michigan is ever going to thrive again it should take a page out of Silicon Valley's book or maybe harken back to the early days (1900's) of the auto industry, when innovation abounded. The thing he should not do is let corporations write the rules as you would have them. Balance needs to be regained in the management/labor equation so we can move forward. Also, Michigan needs to become a smoke free in public places state. This would go a long way to reducing health care costs. Have any of your "responsible corporations" advocated this as way of reducing their health care costs? Latest Physicians report out of Michigan states that 3,300 heart attacks in Michigan are the result of smoking with larger percentage of that total each year resulting for second hand smoke.

So before you go spouting the GOP Republican Mantra that Govt. should be run like a business I suggest you tune into. 1310AM WDTW from 12pm-3pm weekdays to here Michigan Native Son Thom Hartmann explain the truth about Americas place in the world. Than Maybe someday we can return to that exceptional place all you right wingers keep proclaiming us to be.

As for woodhavenmike, we have more to fear from corporate fascism in America than we ever will from socialism.

Cheer up things can get worse

The economy will probably get better in the next four years unless the govt. helps too much. Remember 50% of the 70% voted for him, which means that the remaining 20%, less than half of those who voted for "not obama" think or hope times will get better.

His goal is one class of people(he is a socialist) that all suffer equally. Of course the liberal elites are excluded from the plan, because they are more enlightened than the peasants. GOD SAVE THIS COUNTRY.
