Trade Millen!

the titular head of this football organization should be; canned, fired, given the pink slip, cut, traded, and looked at with perpetual askance!

Lion's Defensive Coordinator

What happened? Did the Lion's change defensive coordinators last week? Why did they change what was so successful during pre-season? During four pre-season games I saw a Lion's defense constantly attacking opposing offenses with multiple blitz packages, stunts,5,6,7 and 8 men tight in the box, and various defensive sets and coverage's that had every opposing quarterback befuddled. They flat-out got after people. Today, I saw the same defensive nonsense that I've witnessed from Detroit's defensive coordinators over the past six or seven years; sit back, wait, and try unsuccessfully to react, and ultimately get their butt's kicked, hard. The pre-season strategy of an attacking defense worked well for the Lion's, so why did the coordinator change it going into the regular season?

cedric11, southfield, mi

No, Joe Barry remains the defensive coordinator. I actually think the guy might be a half way decent coach. He does not have players. They could not tackle you are me.

This is beyond silly. And must I remind you that the Lions are 31-82 since a certain president came to town?

Lions

Terry--lets all vow to forget the L----! it was not fun watching today but we don't have to watch anymore!!! Michigan and State are enough to handle!!!they are not going to make things comfortable all season!!

billbig, rockford, mi

I know we dont have to watch. But we watch any way. Why? I don't know. But that is what we do in Detroit. We watch and we hope and then we jeer. It is a vicious cycle.

Optimistic Lions Fan

It's ok Terry. The Lions have also won my heart. I see 9-11 wins this season and I think Marinelli finally has HIS team in place. They believe in Rod and maybe we should too.

smoking catnip, Trenton, MI

That is a bit optimistic and I doubt you are going to be right. But we shall see.

what can you do?

I also was hoping to watch from afar this season, but 4-0 in preseason, reading the detnews during traing camp, the fact that the North seems as though it will be weak (Minnesota? really?)I am sucked back in. Oh well

Kwame's mouth

In my opinion Kwame should never be allowed to speak again. He only causes more damage. Whom does this man think he is fooling with the nonsense that escapes his mouth?

Blaming Granholm for targeting him? Blaming others for trying to tear apart his marriage? Race baiting yet again with his comment regarding his sister's residence?

I hope the people of Detroit are smart enough to know when they are being duped. They better not reelect this clown when he inevitably runs for mayor again.

aslively, St. Clair Shores, MI

You forgot one thing. He essentially began his election campaign for 2,013 or whenever. He talked about come backs. He talked about how his kids were proud of him and how much his wife loved him. And he tried to blame others (us) for trying to break up his marriage. I did not hook him up with his chief of staff. Is that my fault?

Ford history: forget it

Forget about my "interesting" theory below. It's not correct. While the family history I listed below is true, the first-born-son only theory is not right. The family tree I was studying did not list all the offspring. Sorry.

I do not want to make anyone dummer. : )

Ford family tree...interesting twist

After taking my fifth tour at the Edsel Ford house in Grosse Pointe, I decided to look up some Ford family history. (By the way, if you take the tour rememeber to take the extensive version where you get to see the extra rooms and the attic...very cool.)

So, when I looked up the family tree I noticed something very interesting. (if you don't find it interesting, then sorry)

1. Henry Ford's grandfather, John Ford, had five siblings yet was the only person to have children.

2. John Ford then fathered eight children.

3. William Ford, John Ford's first son, was the only one of the eight to father children. He fathered nine children. (two died shortly after birth)

4. "The" Henry Ford, William Ford's first son, was the only one of the nine to father children. He only had one child, Edsel.

Edsel, of course, had four children: Henry II, Benson, Josephine and the Lion's owner, William. Each of these children went on to have multiple offspring.

So, it looks like at some point in the Ford's history only the first born son was allowed to have children. Weird and interesting.

Tatum Bell

Anyone really surprised that Tatum Bell was a bust? When is the last time that Denver gave up on someone and that person went elsewhere and proved them wrong? That's the difference between a good organization and the Lions. In the last 30 years, the Broncos have had only a handful of losing seasons while Detroit has had only a handful of winning seasons. There's a reason for that.

The sad thing about Tatum Bell is that he has the skills to be a good back, he just doesn't have the right attitude and work ethic. Mike Shanahan put him in his dog house one too many times and that's why he's no longer a Bronco.

dkmi, Oxford, MI

And thank goodness he no longer is a Lion. But why did we have to find out first hand the guy is a bust.

Felons for mayor

Kwame wants to plead guilty to two felonies and agree not to run for office for two years. I don't understand this. In Michigan can a convicted felon run for mayor? In Michigan can a convicted felon run for the state legislature? What office is he referring to? Kwame is up to something.

sirand, Chicago, IL

Yes a felon can run for office. It is part of a plea bargain. They negotiated this with him and that is the way it rolls.

Michigan football

I always thought the spread offense was gimmicky and cheap. It seemed like teams that ran it were saying we know we are not as good as you, we know we can't out-tough you, so we are going to dupe you. The spread seemed like a way for lesser caliber teams to try to compete with more talented and more prominent teams.

Now Michigan has gone full-out spread. To be honest watching Saturday's game made me sick to my stomach...not because they lost but because of that circus offense. I am not sure I can deal with this, win or lose.

I guess I am a tradionalist. I believe football and most certainly Michigan football should be played a certain way. What I saw on Saturday was not football. I am really having a problem with this.

Tatum's bell...

Terry, I thought the issue with Johnson at Cincy was that he was hobbled by injuries. I hadn't heard anything about personal issues. Hopefully he will be a plus for us in the backfield.

Tatum's Bell rung

Hey, Terry, isn't the annual Lions' "There's a new attitude" story overdue?
