Wine Laws
Regarding Michigan wine laws: Its not Michigan laws that restrict you from getting wine shipped into CA. Rather the state of CA requires an outstate winery to deposit $500 in escrow towards their wine tax prior to shipping any wine to CA residents. Unless a winery is going to ship 2500+ cases to individuals it is not worth its to register in CA for the right to ship. CA needs to even the playing field and let wineries pay the excise tax as it is accrued. Their excessive requirements don't make it feasible for us midwesterners to compete in the land of milk and honey. B

Wine Laws
Briefly, I am a transplanted area resident, now living and working in wine country. A couple of weeks back I read an article in the News about some great Michigan Cherry port. Discouragingly, after several phone calls and emails I was unable to obtain a case of Chateau Chantal Cerise due to very prohibative Michigan State laws. What really got me upset is that today I found a Cherry Port from South Africa being sold at my local distributor. Is there nothing we can do to overturn these ridiculous laws in place that provide untold millions of dollars to mofia coffers?
