Discipline Weighed for Strikers

Up until last night I did not support either side in this, as both sides are wrong on certain issues but leaned more towards the Board. I cannot do that anymore.

After the Board sat there with egg on their face last night when the MEA lawyer presented them with the judge's cease and desist order I have to support the Teachers. I also have to say I think it is time that wethe people of Wayne Westland elected a new School Board and hired a new Superintendent.

I am predicting an Obama victory. Not because he's the better candidate or he's the best man for the job, but because "the people" believe everything they hear from The One and his adorers in the mainstream media. (That, and most voters are convinced there is no option other than Grampa)

Just turn off the brain and say: "Oprah is my religion and Obama is the Messiah." Repeat.

So I think we will get stuck with this smooth-talking socialist because the Republicans were once again too stupid to nominate a true conservative. Maybe it will take a Carter Redux (or worse) to wake the Republican Party out of their suicidal "we have to govern from the center" mantra, thereby aping Democrats. The Republican Party needs to reclaim their free-market, minimal government roots, or they will go the way of the Whigs.

McCain in trouble

Well, Real, your analysis would never be more "real." We all know you're paid to advertise for Barack Obama. At least I'm connected to neither candidate.

McCain...I hope he wins. He even flip-flopped and got things wrong in a debate where he HAD A PENCIL AND PAPER! Didn't he accuse Obama of attacking Afghanistan when Obama merely wanted to get bin Laden solely?

I hope he wins because America deserves it. "Whose gonna help me now? What teat can I suckle from?" Welp, well find out.

Of course, in politics its not generally who you like, as the clich← goes, but who you don't like the least!

Sound Bites For The Uninformed Couch Potatoes.

If you repeat a lie long enough, the uninformed begin to believe it to be the truth (which may explain many of the posts I read here).

"Obama Outspending McCain Nearly 3 to 1 on Television"

"From Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, Obama spent more than $20 million on television ads in 17 states including more than $3 million in Pennsylvania and more than $2 million each in Florida, Michigan and Ohio.

McCain in that same time frame spent just $7.2 million in 15 states. Even when the Republican National Committee's independent expenditure spending in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin is factored in (a total of $5.3 million), Obama still outspent the combined GOP forces by roughly $8 million in the last week alone."

Gettelfinger (UAW) is behind the just announced 3 million union dues dollars supporting pro union protectionism through its anti McCain lies.

The MEA has been hammering its union dues supported campaign against McCain long before he was even the official GOP candidate.

Think about this. With a heavy advertising budget, a product called Headon (Apply it directly on your forehead. Headon, apply it directly on your forehead) raked in multi-millions from the same uninformed couch potatoes that are voting for Obama. They quickly found out that it was nothing more than a menthol rub with empty promise that didn't stop the pain. You get what you pay for!

Once again Obama looked presidential and McCain looked and acted like an unwell old man as he wandered around the stage. What always comes across about McCain is that he is a hack politician that would be dangerous in the White House.

Barack Obama is unflappable. He is smooth and has a firm grasp of the facts. There were a couple of moments that were very telling. McCain referring to his opponent as "that one" made me wince and I felt it was demeaning and showed the real McCain. Also, McCain tried to tout his good judgement on "speaking softly and carrying a big stick" until Barack reminded the old guy about his bomb, bomb, bomb Iran ditty.

Overall, Obama will continue to lead in the polls. He will be out next President. He is a good and decent man. Barack Obama won the debate.

Macomb County cutbacks

Well now lets cut more from the taxayers services and benefits like Freedom Hill, Martha T Berry facility....wait, here is a thought lets cut the number of County Commissioners that we have, yes, that would save money!! It is time for a County Executive and downsize the number of county commissioners. Geez, look at the high salaries, benefits monies this county would save.

Bailout Failure

"To get the bailout passed, the administration had to scare everybody and say, 'We're headed for another Great Depression,' " said H. Nejat Seyhun, a finance professor at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. "So just last week everybody heard that the sky is falling -- and now they believe it."

Bingo. This is another example of the Bush administration making self-fulfilling prophecies and is a trademark of this irresponsible and incompetent president and his cronies. Their "m/o" continues to be one of fabricating an imagined threat of an otherwise non-existent crisis to get a dimwitted Congress to act without deliberation and frighten the populace into obedience. This was the same as 9/11. They exploded the fear into a war--but not with the perpetrators--those became an afterthought. But, instead, redirected all the effort into Iraq with neocons fabricating an imagined nuclear terrorism crisis through an impotent and contained Saddam Hussein.

then becomes a real one and Bush then looks idiotic with his babbling rhetoric and confused look. Iraq wasn't a terrorist playground--but it is now. There wasn't a real crisis in banking--small town banks and major concerns like Bank of America and Chase were doing just fine. But, big time campaign contributors for AIG and Bears Stearn needed to be rescued to pay for junkets and huge golden parachute packages. Now, Bush--as with Iraq when it became clear that it was a fraud and was failing--looks idiotic with his babbling rhetoric and confused deer-in-the-headlights look. Heck, if AIG failed, Martin Sullivan's severance pay might have only been a million dollars or so or some such paltry sum instead of the tens of millions he received. In rides Paulson to save the day and then shake up the world with threats. Problem is the crisis became real because of their rantings. Now, Bush--as with Iraq when it became clear that it was a fraud and fel into civil war--looks idiotic with his babbling rhetoric and confused deer-in-the-headlights look.

And we want to vote in more of the same with McCain??????

Wake up America.

0-16

Before the beginning of the season O'Hara wrote a column claiming that the Lions could possibly win 10 games - at that time I replied and predicted they'd win 3 - anyone who wasn't blind could have looked at this year's schedule when it came out and seen that the Lions would be lucky to win 3 or 4 games - they never win on the road no matter what so that's 0-8 before you even start. They never beat Green Bay or Minnesota so that's 0-10 - that leaves Chicago at home which they've already lost so 0-11.....now you tell me among New Orleans, Washington, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, and Tennessee - which of those teams does ANYONE think they can beat? Maybe Tampa, IF Tampa is too busy laughing to play - otherwise 0-16 looks about right to me...

The political rhetoric of Obama is right up the same alley as the "we will be blown away" by Jenny the wonderful in Michigan. The only person really touting the Obama "plan" is Obama himself. It is full of holes the size of craters. The experts and the think tanks that have studied his plan are tearing it apart. He only talks a good story and those believing in his plan truly have not studied it. To take the attention away from his plan - he goes on the attack with distorted facts from McCain's plan and then ties everything McCain stands for back to Bush.

Obama's adds also state that McCain would continue spending billions in Iraq. Guess what? So does Obama's. He couldn't pull out the minute he takes over - if you were to assume he wins the election - and I am not convinced of that. He is so full of double talk and sweetness to the ears of many Americans that can't think for themselves - it isn't funny.

The American public DO NOT know Obama - and when they find out the true facts about this person's agenda - they will be in for a rude awakening. If you think Michigan is in bad shape now from Jenny, wait til Obama totally dismantles the USA with his agenda! This might be hard for you libs to stomach, but you are being conned by a con artist, Obama!

Westland teachers

Wow! Re-write a contract that reduces class size by up to 9 students (5 off of class size and 4 from possible overload). Reduce from 32 to 27? With 850 teachers (300 at secondary schools) that would require an additional 56 teachers and classrooms at middle and high schools. At $34000 basic salary (new teachers only), $14,800 for insurance, and $5570 in retirement that would require $3,044,720 in additional compensation just this year over what this district pays for employee compensation now. Give all the current teachers additional increases of up to 7.5% this year and its current fund balance of $12,000,000 will be gone before you can buy books and build the classrooms for these teachers(or bus kids to different schools).

salary

"She has a Master's Degree..she should earn more than what she is making! Most teachers work through the holidays."

Most do? Doing what may I ask? Obviously not teaching as there are no students to teach. If that person who feels that making close to $50,000 for 8 months of work plus some pretty good benefits is not enough, maybe they should seek employment in other areas and see how well they do.

"You really can't be that ignorant to think that all they do is walk into a class room in the morning and then leave at 3:00 and never do anything else? Or work over the holidays? Really - do you think that?"

Actually yes. I have had teachers in the past that were out of the parking lot before the buses left the school. If they have to do their job and create a class schedule that that is a requirement of the job. Does that require weeks if not months of work? Nope, in fact most of the class circiulum is mandated by the school district.

I have had classes in both K-12 and college where "yes" they came in and said read chapters bla bla bla in the book - test tomorrow. Again, if they think they are overworked - find another career.

I have had some real good teachers too!

The sad fact is there seemed to be more bad then good. I have one who still calls me from time to time.

Do you think they never have to deal with trying to teach 35 kids at one time? Deal with bosses - and obviously the worst thing - parents like you?

Uhh, hate to inform you but that is a requirement of the job. Do you think any other job does not require "dealing with bosses?"

Most companies are down sizing their work force and almost everyone is required to do more work for same pay. Why should being a teacher be any different? Oh just to let you know, teachers salaries are paid by tax payers.

Actually I was (my kids have graduated college) very involved in my children's education. I had one teacher who said my daughter couldn't be an engineer and to put it bluntly, because she was female (its a mans world baby). Pretty hard trying to explain to my child that there are bad teachers out there and you can be whatever you want in this world. She almost gave up because of him.

Being that he was the only one who taught the class that my daughter needed, she was stuck with him. I tried to get him removed but due to tenure he could not.

So that makes me a bad parent?

There are many good teachers, however, there are those who are there not to teach but to collect a paycheck.

Oh by the way - she is an mechanical engineer and doing quite well even because of this so called teacher (he's retired now - thank god).

"Do you think a Master's Degree comes free? No work, no money, no time invested? People like you amaze me. I keep thinking they can't be that stupid..."

I never said a masters degree came free. Not sure what you mean by "No work, no money, no time invested?"

Who is that stupid?

You make assumptions. If the teacher feels they are underpaid for their services, I suggest they find another avenue of work and see what a masters degree will get them. They knew what the job paid when they got into the field of teaching. A person with a masters degree should not have a hard time finding employment but it will require working a full year.

Const. Patriot

See, this is how it works, when the Generals don't do the bidding of the President, or what the President wants he get's somebody who does. The President runs the war. Any one who has been in the service knows who the commander in Cheif is, evident you don't or don't want to admit you made a mistake. I can appreciate your not wanting to back down on a mistatement because you're never worng, obviously. But in this case you simply don't know what you're talking about. Try reading the Constitution before giving yourself a name that makes you look silly.

In what appears to be a military shakeup surrounding Iraq, President Bush has replaced both the top US general in the Middle East and the top general in Iraq, ABC NEWS is reporting on air.

According to a Kansas City Star article published December 24, "Commanders have been skeptical of the value of increasing troops. The decision represents a reversal for Casey, the highest-ranking officer in Iraq. Casey and Gen. John P. Abizaid, the top commander in the Middle East, have long resisted adding troops in Iraq,

David Petraeus will replace General George Casey, commander of US forces in Iraq. Casey originally opposed the President's plan to add troops in Iraq, arguing it could delay "the development of Iraqi security forces and increase anger at the United States in the Arab world."

Try to understand; the Generals did not follow orders of their Comander in Cheif, they were replaced with someone who will do his bidding, follow orders and do what the President directs. I know it won't sink in.

The last word is yours, you'll think you've proven something.
