$60 per share

$60 a share! I sold my stock options at $78 a share and it went to $95 that was around that same time late 90s early 00s. I was in the Body Design Group we had some good times.

$60 per share

I can remember when GM stock was worth $60 dollars per share/ Seems like such a long time ago. Back then, Engineers did engineering. Designers did design work. Detailers did detail drawings. Things were much different way back in 2000.

My first car...

...was a '65 Corsa 140. Next came a '67 Camaro SS/RS 350 convertible. Until recently my fondest memory was of a '75 Trans Am. I now have 99,000 miles on my CTS and it still has two of the original tires and the original brakes and clutch. Try that in the old days.

GM memories

There are many nice memories. But they are just that. Memories. The GM we knew and loved is gone. The pitiful remains of this once great company will soon be gone, too. My father, who was a life-long GM employee, recently passed away. At least he did not live to see the demise of his beloved GM.

My Memories of GM

My father was a front end mechanic for Ford for 22 years until he got his big break with GM. He worked midnights at the GM tech center on prototypes.

It broke my heart to hear him tell about taking a sledge hammer and smashing brand new Corvettes into smithereens. He said he never had so much fun working.

My father passed away in 1975 and when I hear GM, I think about all those great cars he worked on and destroyed. Sigh!

My Memories of GM

I went to work at the GM Tech Center in 1979. They sold every other car on the road at that time. Many executives have received huge salaries and bonuses over the past 29 years while sales slipped and they just did not know how to respond.

GM kept the capacity to build every other car on the road for to long after they were down to 25%. Now while trying to keep a much smaller market share they use an axe to downsize to what should have been surgically achieved over the years.

One of my superiors joked about Toyota having a 2050 plan. At least they were planning on being here in 2050, what is GM's plan?

My Memories of GM

Sorry to disappoint you American Metal, not sure where you conclude my life is horrible, I guess you're just jealous.....it's pretty sweet actually...and I'm far away from the gray November skys of Clarkston MI.....but my inlaws live in Port Huron and I'll be there at Thanksgiving....maybe I'll drive through there and dump my trash! I'll be the one with the Red Honda Odyssey with Connecticut plates.

Miss the older cars

My last really cool GM car was a pontiac tempest, 1964, done up with the right badges to be a GTO lookalike.

While GM does still have pretty cool cars, like the CTS-V, G6, etc...it's sad to see that most cars out there are generic economy boxes. I can't tell an american car from a japanese, or even korean one anymore.

Of course, they do last longer now. 150k miles seems like a given with cars made in the last ten years.

I just can't see my kids being nostalgic about the cars of today when they are older. -- bill@how to save money

Sounds like you had a horrible life based on your horrible luck.

The good part of your demise is that this country's economy wouldnt be impacted by your passing. Japan's will but not the US.. Bye Bye

My Memories of GM

My next car was a Honda Accord which was absolutely bullet proof. Sorry folks who don't believe it, you're kidding yourselves. I drove THAT car for 14 years with no car payments for 11 of those years....and I sold it in 2005 for $1400!! With 252K miles! And the ORIGINAL clutch!

Today, however, I do owe a GM car, a 2002 Corvette Convertible, which I just drive on sunny days in the summer. I enjoy it a lot, but there are still nagging problems with it. I don't see GM surviving. Good riddance.

My favorite cars were the Impala's of the 1960's and the Cutlasses of the late 60's and early 70's. The '67 and '68 Catalina was also a great car. My grandfather had a Cutlass with a 455-ci engine with a 4bbl. carbuerator and double exhasts (it was the Cutlass Supreme model so it was tasteful) and talk about overpowered? Too bad that thing didn't handle like cars today do, because that thing could really fly.

GM is starting to make good cars today, but I hope they are making them for the long haul. The drivers' seat in my '02 Acura looks like a brand new seat; same with my '94 Accord when it was 6 years old. I hope they are using durable materials inside rather than the "pleather" in my brother's Ford Expedition that looks like junk.

The family of one of my coworkers owns a GM dealership in Ohio and he is loyal to GM and still drives an Oldsmobile Aurora. The other day another of my coworkers was complaining about the $300 electronic key he was going to have to purchase for his wife's Cadillac STS. He (the first coworker) even admitted that the ticky tack problems still make owning an American car annoying. How is it that Honda and Toyota can do it but GM can't? Why is this so difficult?

This is a shame.

gm

I never owned a GM until I worked for the company, and in no uncertain terms they told me no vehicles in the lot unless they were GM products. But my dad always drove a Chev. My favorite cars were my Fiat 850 Spider Convertible, my VW Bug and the boss of all bosses, the Roadrunner, Chrysler really did have the market for the muscle cars, Mopar wiped out GM every time.
