Come on Slappy
It's a shame that Public Div 1 schools can't schedule against Div 2 and so forth, unless I am wrong? I agree with the Adams #1 ranking - so many coming back from an awesome 2007 squad. I have not seen an IKE- Adams game in many years now, were great games. The rankings really mean nothing though, and and Markowski is a total idiot or just doesn't care anymore. McCabe used ot do more research as well. The first article in the news the first day of practice, simply a re-hashed article form years past about hydration, just change the teams and coaches comments. By the way, that Prep Ticket BS? I won the very first week's contest last year, and after three e-mails throughout the season, they still did not send me my prize. Hillarious.
Come on Slappy
You know the answer to that. Polls and rankings mean nothing unless your team is in them, and he(BMTOM) knows better then the guys that are paid to do that. In all fairness though, it's pretty tough to rank HS football without a play being made, and all the turnover that takes place. There is a common theme in the current rankings of returning starters, and previous success(Dakota). Obviously, the so called experts have the same thoughts regarding D2 vs D1.
Gotta love it..
Hey Tom/Big Mike, you are constantly touting how much more talented and deep Division 1 is than Division 2 or 3... What do you think about the Freep ranking 8 of 10 teams in the top 10 from D2 or D3? This ought to be good... 6 and possibly 7 of the top 10 are from D2. I guess D1 is still the best division though... in your mind.
The Scene, ahem......
tom ----ill say a 0-0 tie between LHS-SLHS......ok, make it 7-0 south lake....but honestly does anyone really care???...good luck to both teams though......dls better than BBR and OLSM???.....i dont think so but the pilots have both of these tough foes at home......and as they say, thats why u play the games....no one thought dls had a chance in 06 either..looked what happened!!!.....PT.......u know recruiting is going on behind the scenes all the time..i say its just business as usual......my question is who is the top player in macomb co???.......the ike QB is getting plenty of props.......can the dakota player play a 5th year in high school??......a lively topic on m-live
PT Scoops this n that!
Hello Everybody in forum land!! Some breaking stories. MHSAA will soon make some changes district play. As reported by the SOS on the Freep the MHSAA will be making some changes in district play. How bout the top line of a bracket hosting a district game to save gas. Finals will be open for bid may end up at the Palace instead of Breslin my opinion hope they stay in the land of green and white! MHSAA will now allow High school coach's to recruit eighth graders. They will be allowed one visit. Watch for some changes at Osborn basketball will they compete with that program at 7 mile and Ryan (Pershing)?? Question of the day. Will the MHSAA change to allow HS coach's to have a visit with top eighth graders change the balance of power?? Or does this just formalize what already takes place??

The Scene, ahem......
DLS' ranking was by the coaches, not the freep. I guarantee Verska didn't vote that way. Tom(BM), why to keep bringing that Adams game up? Do you think it bothers anyone? It's one game, and they got dominated in all aspects. It happens. How about a few years ago when DLS upset a number 1 ranked Adams team in the playoffs.
The Scene, ahem......
Hello poster Tom W. again with a few little dittlies...FB is getting started this week...and some pinecones (not acorns as BM used to say,,,,Wom Tinslow, CHSL Slappy, EZ57 and other CHSL Slappies, the Freep has DeLaSalle picked as the top team in the catholic league..that's right DLS, picked ahead of CC, Rice, U of D (winless last season) and OLSM....that's pretty heady stuff for a team that finished last season with a shellacking at RochesterAdams in the state playoffs.....question is when the season begins which DLS team will show up...freep must thing very highly of Verska....opening night in the MAC RED thursday and the league's biggest fear is there may be an embarrassing demolition going on at Dakota where the Cougars host hapless Anchor Bay, who was dropped ouf the MAC RED after too many 1-8 and 2-7 seasons.....it could get very ugly there unless Coach Giannonne calls off his hound dogs early....
a 70-6 final could be a possibility if he doesnt.....Utica Ford II is rated rather high inthe MAC RED this year, probably much higher than they have ever been...they have a good, solid coaching staff there and HC Jay Anthes is top notch.....and what about Stevenson who finished 2-7 last year, yes perennial powerhouse Stevenson finishing at 2-7 last year....their program has dropped by leaps and bounds but never count out Rick Bye rebuilding there....the only legitimate threat to Dakota's empire by consensus is Eisenhower...they will play long ball with QB Copacia throwing rockets to his receivers all over the field....they are always a well disciplined team and rarely take stupid penalties to shoot themselves in the foot...still Dakota has those steers on the OL and DL and that will be a problem....the mystery meat team will be Romeo...how will they stack up against the top horses of the MAC RED??? Something tells me a 5-4 season is on tap for them.....prediction: South Lake 35, Huskies 7, arf and barf!!! And AnotherEastsider I agree with your take on GPN..they are always good enuf to have a 7-2 or 6-3 record most years but not enough 93 octane in the tank to go far in the state playoffs....Big Frank is always looking for that top notch QB too, just like DLS is always looking for...I am cancelling my invitation to Gilberts on thursday...I hate those screetch mouths with that karioke music playing..wasnt karioke a 90s bowling alley thing anyway....I can take any song, any song that is except "Proud Mary"...oh lord, I have heard that ringer about 1800 times in my life and about 988 times at weddings.....I want to crawl in a hole when that song comes on...you too??? and Eastsider91 I like Dakota 32, Ike 17 when they play....later Tom and peace to all......

Some more info for you from a local rag:
Birmingham Brother Rice Warriors
Head coach: Al Fracassa, 39th year (329-79-2)
Staff: Larry Zimmerman, Scott Merchant, Jamie Boerkoel, Keith Worth, David Sofran, Jeff Stachowiak, Chuck Padden
Last year: 8-3, 5-1, lost in a Division 2 district final at Rochester Adams, 24-21.
Why they'll make some noise: Because it's Brother Rice, and it might be a sign of Armaggedon if a day comes where the Warriors don't. The strength of this year's team is on defense, particularly at LB and in the secondary. Senior Shamari Benton (6-1, 193) is a Division I college prospect who will be a team leader at LB, senior DB Kenny Watkins (6-1, 192) has committed to Indiana, while sophomore Jimmy Pickens (6-1, 190) should be a fixture at safety for years to come. Seniors Peter Plaskey (6-4, 245), Matt Maletzke (6-0, 235) and John Miller (6-2, 221) will anchor the defensive line.
Why they won't: There is some uncertainty on offense, particularly with the talent at the skill positions the Warriors will have to replace. Andy Lentz at QB, Michigan State freshman Caulton Ray RB and speedy the Ron Dorsey-Austin at WR all graduated. Junior QB Frankie Popp did play most of the regular season last year when Lentz was injured, so he should be a seasoned player. Seniors Danny Henneghan (6-0, 188) and Shaquille Marshall (6-0, 223) will lead the running game, junior Kevonte Martin (6-1, 184) and Mark Makoski (6-1, 187) will be two of the wideouts, while seniors Jareth Glanda (6-4, 260) and Zack Cherocci (6-1, 242) return along the offensive line.
The skinny: Once again, the Warriors should be one of the top teams in the Catholic League and in the state. A stunning newsflash, we know. They would no doubt love another shot at Rochester Adams in the state playoffs, where the Highlanders eliminated the Warriors in what might have been the game of the year last year within Oakland County. If the rematch happens again in October or November, it would be another terrific scene.

Thanks for the info, I am from Grand Rapids. I am not really A Muskegon fan but it should be a great game.
Oh yeah...
I sincerely apologize for the typos in my last post. I get on a typing roll and just write, and taking time and checking for errors goes out the window. My fault.
One should never have errors in a post about academics. Ever. LOL
About the acedemic discussion
I took a break. Hiatus. Vacation. I can't do summers, folks. My bad. Anyway, the discussion is lively when we speak about acedmic standards and things of that nature. why? Becuase acedemicians and intelligent brow beaters are always harping on the stats of student athletes and the fact that concessions are made for them.
So friggin what.
Seriously. Let's look at football, for instance. Ball players have a bad rep already, but football has a terrible reputation. Why? I can't say without bias, because I am a former ball player myself, and I've seen things from both sides.
I've seen people majoring in music get the same concessions, but that doesn't get talked about because they are not publicized. I've seen an engineering student leave school after only three semesters because he got his dream job over Christmas break. I've seen more kids going through the motions that were NOT athletes than the other way around. And yet nobody seems to give a care because the athletes represent the school.
Look, guys, fact is, attrition happens. If you are mad at a University because it does not have a high graduation rate for athletes, look at the whole school. You'd be surprised to see a great number of colleges and universities numbers are very similar for athletes, and in many cases are HIGER than the normal attrition rates at the school.
Now, none of this has anything to do with HS sport, however I have a theory: Blame parents. In college, kids are their own bosses, in essence, and will get away with what you allow. That would be a shame on the part of the administrators and everyone who allows things to get hairy. In HS, though, the adults still have all the control. The kids should only do what the parent's allow. If there is not control at the home, then the kids will be heathens. We've seen it all before.
How many students that are progrny of teachers and administrators get away with murder? I can't count how many times I took kids to the office for offenses I would have thought unforgivable, only to see that student in the school a few days later? In my last year working at a HS, I reported maybe three athletes total, and that was not because I gave them preferential treatment. They were the good kids, generally speaking. The rest of the population was stupid and attending school just because.
I apologize for the long rant. I've written papers (like PT) and what not extensively on this subject, and it is one that I have always been passionate about, albeit on the college level moreso than HS. But I hope you all still get my point...
Dakota
Pimp, that's him. Plays a good centerfield, and has a Kawasaki 150, and it's not my story. It came from some of the horses mouths.
Dakota
Are the rumors true that Kelly Leak is running the hallways at Dakota? Lighting Cigs in front of hall monitors, knocking books out of kids hands in the hallways, and peeling out of the parking lot to go cruise Gratiot? Somebody please confirm Wom's story. I know it as fact, if it came from my man Wom!
PT Athletes have changed since 1970's
Hello Everybody in forum land! Fred things have changed since I wrote my paper in 1972. But they have changed for non-athletes also. More schools make allowances for special need students. I also stand by my statement that athletes are more focused and disciplined. When I did my paper in 1972 one of the football players who was all state in football as a offensive lineman also was a wiz at math and scored a perfect 1600 on his SAT. I think if a kid is a failure it has nothing to do with the help he is getting but has more to do with there moral character. One of the non-athletes in my study also scored 1600 on his sat but did not last (2) semesters at MSU he got involved with drugs and was expelled. The all state football player also went to MSU but did not play football he was asked but decided to concentrate on academics since he already had a full ride academic scholly!
